World Cup qualification tracker: Who can still qualify and how? – FIBA


MIES (Switzerland) – 32 teams will be at the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023. After five windows of the World Cup Qualifiers, only 17 teams have been able to confirm their spots at the main event that will be held from 25 August to 10 September this year in the Philippines, Japan, and Indonesia.

That’s only barely over half of all the seats taken to FIBA’s flagship event which means there is still a lot of basketball left to be played.
Which teams can punch their tickets to the World Cup on the upcoming game day of Window 6? How can they secure their spots?
Here’s a quick tracker to help you stay updated:
Who in the Americas will make it to the World Cup stage? 🤔

So far in the Americas, only Canada has qualified for the World Cup and are also undefeated.
From Group E, Venezuela can also follow suit at the end of the first game day. Over in Group F, it is USA, Brazil, and Puerto Rico that can mathematically claim qualification tickets.

Cote d’Ivoire have yet to be defeated in the African Qualifiers, putting them in a relatively comfortable position of having already qualified for the World Cup.
On the first game day, however, teams from Group E are not yet able to qualify for the World Cup. Meanwhile, in Group F, South Sudan and Egypt can both qualify if they secure wins on their end.

A lot has already been decided in the European Qualifiers with nine teams already having filled up the 12 available spots. The battle gets intense from here on out.
Serbia and Belgium are in the running for the last spot in Group I.
Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Hungry are competing for the last ticket in Group K.
Georgia, Iceland, and Ukraine are the three teams fighting for the last seat from Group L.

The Asian Qualifiers have the least available spots left for grabs, but there’s no less suspense as it could very well go down the final buzzer on the last game day before it’s all settled and done.
