Liverpool 'definitely interested' in £25m Erling Haaland teammate – GIVEMESPORT

Liverpool are “definitely” interested in signing Sheffield United and Norway international Sander Berge as Jürgen Klopp looks to reshape his midfield at Anfield, according to journalist Dean Jones.
The midfielder joined the Bramall Lane outfit in January 2020.
According to Jeunes Footeux, both Chelsea and Liverpool have been linked with a move for Berge this winter, though Fabrizio Romano later went on to suggest that the Reds had cooled their interest in his CaughtOffside column.
However, it is believed that the £22m signing would be interested in a move back to the Premier League but is ‘relaxed’ about his future, with the midfielder having a £35m release clause, as per YorkshireLive.
Alex Crook of talkSPORT previously told GiveMeSport of the Merseyside club’s interest in the 32-time Norway international back in the summer transfer window, suggesting that there are some long-term legs to this link, whilst it had also been suggested that the Blades were willing to let the midfielder leave for £25m in June.
And Jones has confirmed this by suggesting that Liverpool have been interested in a move for Berge for “a long, long time” but were put off a move for the midfielder when he picked up a serious injury at the height of their interest.
Jones told GiveMeSport: “There’s definitely interest here and there’s been an interest for a long, long time. Liverpool have looked at this in the past but he got a pretty serious injury and that was around the time when they probably had the most interest in him.”
With four central midfielders out of contract at Anfield come the end of this season, it’s no surprise to see Liverpool and Klopp looking at a variety of potential deals, as the club look to reshape their side in the middle of the park.
The deep-lying midfielder, who has been personally praised by Klopp as per VG in Norway, has made 80 appearances for Sheffield United since his arrival at the beginning of 2020, scoring 11 goals and providing nine assists in that time according to Transfermarkt.
An average Sofascore rating of 7.10 for his performances in the Championship this season shows that he is capable of performing to a consistently excellent standard in England’s second tier and he may feel that now is the time to make the step back up to the Premier League.
The former Genk man, who plays alongside Manchester City superstar Erling Haaland on the international stage, boasts a pass success rate of 84% per game, alongside making 1.4 key passes, suggesting that he would be able to add a good range of passing to Klopp’s midfield.
Therefore, with Liverpool heading into a transitional period in terms of signings, Berge may be thought of as a relatively cheap addition to the squad at Anfield, in a bid to regenerate a new midfield for the Premier League side.
