Everton manager Frank Lampard wanted to sign Ismaila Sarr for Chelsea and now personally wants the Watford winger at Goodison Park, according to journalist Simon Phillips in GiveMeSport.
The well-known and well-respected journalist has reported that Everton manager Lampard “definitely” wants to sign the Senegal international winger for the Toffees.
Phillips has added that when Lampard was in charge of Chelsea, the former England international midfielder told the club’s board to sign the the 24-year-old, who played for Senegal at the 2022 Qatar World Cup.
The journalist said: “It’s an interesting link because I know when Frank Lampard was at Chelsea, he [Sarr] was one of the names that he put forward to the Chelsea board when he was looking at attackers.
“You can be pretty sure that the interest there is legit, especially from Frank Lampard’s side.”
Phillips added: “I don’t think he’s reached his full potential yet, but he’s definitely got something about him, and he could reach that potential.
“I don’t know whether he would go to a club like Everton, though, I think he would probably set his sights a little bit higher than that. But it’d be an interesting one to see if anything develops there. But Lampard has definitely got an interest in him.”
In our opinion, Everton could be able to sign Ismaila Sarr from Watford in the January transfer window, but only if the Premier League club are willing to pay a good fee.
Watford are aiming to win promotion from the Championship to the Premier League at the end of the season.
And we do not think that the Hornets will be willing to sell Sarr, described as “a brilliant player” by former Manchester United star Gary Neville on ITV (3:51pm, November 21, 2022).
So, Everton will have to come up with a very attractive offer.
The 24-year-old has made 17 starts and one substitute appearance in the Championship for the Hornets so far this season.
The winger has scored six goals and given four assists in those matches.
Sarr scored one goal in four matches for Senegal at the 2022 Qatar World Cup.
