The USMNT have advanced to the knockout stages of the World Cup. Here’s how you can tune in.
The decision to award Qatar the Men’s World Cup remains a deeply controversial one. Indeed, former FIFA president Sepp Blatter even admitted that the location was a "mistake,"
telling Swiss paper Tages Anzeiger, "The choice was bad."
The small Muslim nation, the first Arab country to host the global soccer competition, has spent an estimated $220 billion on building the infrastructure necessary for the tournament, and in the process, migrant workers have died. Ahead of the tournament, FIFA president Gianni Infantino told World Cup teams to "focus on the football" amidst growing criticism surrounding Qatar’s human rights record, treatment of migrant workers, and treatment of LGBTQ+ groups and individuals. In response, European teams such as England and Wales said they would still focus on such issues, writing, "Human rights are universal and they apply everywhere."
Still, the tournament began on November 20, with a match between host nation Qatar (playing in their first-ever World Cup) and Ecuador. The tournament ends a month later, on December 18.
Here’s how to watch the Men’s World Cup—and when the U.S. Men’s National Team (USMNT) is playing:
On television, all the matches will air on Fox (both on FOX and Fox Sports) and Telemundo Deportes. On streaming, you can watch the 2022 FIFA World Cup on Peacock, or you can stream the cable channels with Fubo or SlingTV.
